Affordable Energy Efficient Mountain Homes
With a vision of offering homeowners the opportunity to build a modestly sized, affordable mountain style home that incorporates energy efficient practices and procedures, while maintaining a rustic mountain cabin or cottage feel, Mick Del Greco has partnered with Stephen Schles, AIA of Asheville Area Architecure to design a series of plans to meet his goal.
Construction Features
The homes construction features include 2"x6" exterior framed wall construction and other framing procedures that allow for additional insulation and high energy efficiency. When these methods are combined with energy efficient windows and doors, and high efficiency heating and cooling systems, an Energy Star certification can be easily achieved.
For those homeowners pursuing even further energy cost savings and helping the environment, a certification from HealthyBuilt Homes is also available. The NC HealthyBuilt Homes Program provides a certificate for homes meeting "green home guidelines" built by residential builders who practice sustainable, high performance building strategies making the home a comfortable, healthy and affordable place that reduces energy and water usage, promotes renewable energy use and helps protect the land where the home is built.
In a HealthyBuilt Home, building materials and processes are selected to reduce pollution and the waste of natural resources during the manufacturing and construction phases and throughout the life of the home.
Tax incentives
In addition to lowering energy costs, these programs qualify homeowners for homeowner tax incentives. Lower costs, tax incentives, increased value of a home, and good environmental stewardship—all excellent reasons to investigate affordable, energy efficient homes in beautiful Western North Carolina.
